Viva La Revolucion Robotico

also, viva machine. If I told you there was a band that sang about robots and space truckers, would you thank me, or put scorpions in my mattress? Before you answer that though, take a listen to the UK band Viva Machine. They’ve got a sort of frantic, electro-heavy rock sound that I’ve been really digging on the treadmill these days.

While the band is sadly on hiatus (a la Phantom Planet) I would certainly recommend giving their 2009 self-titled album a good, hard, listen. A looong, hard listen, maybe for days.

Bruno Mars part 2: “Liqour Store Blues” featuring Damian Marley

Double duty for Bruno Mars today. “Liquor Store Blues” (off the forthcoming Doo-Wops and Hooligans album) is a piece of reggae pop heaven, which is no surprise with Damian Marley in the mix. Very chill classic reggae beat, like Bruno is getting back to his Hawaiian past. Damian rocks it like he always does. This song is just super smooth. Bruno’s voice just blends in with anything, it seems.

Note: It’s hard to listen to this song and ignore the recent news about Bruno Mars. A song about getting messed up right after he’s arrested for drug possession. Irony doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Lupe Fiasco jumps on Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are” Remix

It makes sense that lyricist Lupe Fiasco would pair up with Bruno Mars on something eventually (apparently “Nothing On You” was actually supposed to be his song but he passed on it and B.O.B. hit it huge). Now they have with Lupe jumping on Bruno Mars’ big late summer hit “Just The Way You Are” and making it just a little bit sweeter. But then again, to me, pretty much everything Lupe touches turns to gold. His rhymes here are nice, sweet, and kick the song up just a notch. I don’t think they actually changed the beat at all, just added Lupe in two spots, but that’s alright. I’ll take it. Download and listen:

Sleigh Bells Embrace Pyromania on Awesome “Infinity Guitars” video

Wow. How have I not paid any attention to Sleigh Bells before now? These guys are pretty crazy awesome. Electro rock with a whole lot of attitude, which according to Wikipedia is officially called “Noise Pop”….  yea I had no idea there was such a musical genre either.

Their new single “Infinity Guitars” off their album Treats is just super. Totally makes me want to put on my shades and break stuff. With a super heavy drum line (possibly some clapping in there too?) and a WHOLE LOT of electro guitar, and a female lead singer who’s pretty much yelling but it sounds oh so catchy when she does, it’s hard not too. Check out the music video for the song below, which is pretty awesome. Who doesn’t love baseball bats, cheerleaders, and setting stuff on fire? Although I have to wonder what possible symbol there could be to burning guitars…. could they be saying that there are “infinity guitars” so you can try to burn them down but there will always be more. Oh, the crazy philosophy of “noise pop”…
