Hanni El Khatib and Spank Rock release new records…. + HotW Reaches 300 Posts!!!!

Talk about timing. Today is HotW‘s 300th post, and coincidentally, also the day two of my current favorite artists release albums! Yep, that’s right – Hanni El Khatib released his debut album Will The Guns Out and Spank Rock released his sophomore effort Everything is Boring and Everyone’s a Fucking Liar. I could not have dreamed of a better 300 post-iversary present. Must be a sign that we’re doing something right. It’s been great fun, so we’ll keep on doing it, and thank you so much for supporting us!

As of right now, there aren’t any easily imbeddable playlists that I can post so you can stream the albums directly from our site. However, we can provide you with the web locations of places where you can stream both albums in their entirety. Therefore, I’ve done brief highlight reviews of a song on each album that I hadn’t previously heard, paired with a link for the online streams. I’ll update those with clips as soon as they are available.

On Hanni El Khatib‘s record, I’m really digging track 7, “Heartbreak Hotel”. He maintains his signature fuzzy grunge feel, but throws in a little southern beat and echoing chorus line in the background. A brilliant combination of classic Louisiana style blues with modern garage rock. Balanced and heavy, as we’ve come to expect from Hanni.

Speaking of thumping beats, Spank Rock‘s opening track “Ta Da” brings it hard. With heavy staccato bass and snare, Spank Rock weaves a slow, driving lyrical flow and robo-electronic sounds which I can feel deep down in my chest. That’s seriously the way to start an album of with a bang. The rest won’t dissapoint, either.
