Lana Del Rey serves a hefty dose of vintage with sultry singles “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans”

Sultry, tempting, and dark. That’s what my first thoughts were when I heard Lana Del Rey‘s “Blue Jeans”. What do I mean by these three words? That this Brooklyn-ite is channeling retro hard core, and doing it well. She’s got a deep, breathy voice that is strong while not overpowering her instrumental pairing. A style similar to say Anjulie or Lanie Lane, or as she so described herself ” gangsta Nancy Sinatra”. With vintage never going out of style, she’s definitely a lady to watch.

As I said, I got sucked into the Lana Del Rey orbit with her most recent single “Blue Jeans”. Full of heavy, swampy bass and just a touch of uptempo drums, it immediately mesmerized me. And the music video is pretty fun to watch too. Check that out below, then continue on to a couple more songs that I’ve dug up by her that I think are fabulous.

“Kinda Outta Luck” is a little more fun than “Blue Jeans”, with Del Rey’s vocals floating on top of a simple driving rhythm. She lets go a bit here, letting her inner gangster out (with lyrics about hitting someone with a gun and stuffing them in a trunk). Enjoy, and then move on to her first single from her upcoming album “Video Games”.

“Video Games” is full of orchestral melodies, even going so far as to have harp and bell sounds. The change in instruments doesn’t make her any less sultry or effective. In fact, it actually manages to broaden her vocals, bringing a huge harmonious sound to your eardrums.
